Our Jr. High Youth Ministry typically meets on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month (November, December, and April are exceptions) from 6:30pm until 8:00pm at St. Gregory the Great Catholic School. All students in grades 6-8 are invited and encouraged to attend. Friends (Jr. High school aged) are always welcome at any of our Youth Ministry gatherings regardless of their faith background. Parents are also welcome to join us to see all that we do during our meetings.
Our Jr. High Ministry is more than our Thursday night meetings. We offer and participate in a variety of programming at both the local and diocesan levels. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. We hope to see you soon!
You've waited with GREAT ANTICIPATION and here it is! We're altering our schedule a bit, but still going strong. We'll meet twice a month in June and July and once in August before re-launching weekly Youth Nights as school gets back in session (but let's not focus on that quite yet!).
Thursday, June 15
Thursday, June 29
Thursday, July 13
Thursday, July 27
Thursday, August 10
Summer meetings will be a mix of some stricly social/game nights and other nights where we incorporate catechesis/spirituality. All students going into grade 6 through grade 8 are invited!
As we move forward and grow our minsitry i would like to form a parent advisory board to meet a few times a year (Quarterly) to discuss the youth ministry direction, activities, ways to improve, how to plug into the parish overall - not remain a separate community, and to share any concerns that you may have or hear about. If you would be interested in serving on such a committe/board, please contact Mike Sylvester in the parish office. Oru first meeting would be mid/late summer depending on individual schedules.
The Christian Leadership Institute (CLI) is a five-day long experience for Jr. high school studenst from throughout the diocese who come together with an adult minister to foster leadership and development in order to produce Christian leaders for schools, parish youth ministries, and the community. The camp is designed to ignite spiritual renewal and empower youth to effectively share their faith with their peers. Teens will build new friendships with other teens from around the diocese, be inspired in their Catholic faith, and develop some very practical ministry skills, all while having the time of their life.
CLI has four main components:
Jr. High Parent Feedback Needed
We are beginning to plan for the summer and the next school year and want to know if we need to change our Jr. High Youth Ministry Schedule. I think it would be nice to meet more often (possibly weekly), but I want your input.
1. Our current summer plan is to meet twice a month for June, July, and August for those who can make it around summer plans - does this sound like a good idea?
2. Should the Jr. High Youth Ministry meet more than twice a month starting next school year?
3. What day/time would be best for Jr. High Youth Ministry meetings? Thursdays cut into a lot of fall sports schedules
We greatly appreciate your feedback and your patience/support. As we continue to grow the ministry we will add more programs, retreats, trips, etc. to the overall ministry. We will participate in Diocesan Jr. High offerings throughout the rest of the 2016-2017 school year and even add some of our own this spring. These questions only reflect one program within the overall ministry - and we've got big plans for more (in time!)! Email firstname.lastname@example.org with your input! Thank you!
