COVID-19 Ministry Update August 25, 2020

Dear Families,

I pray this message finds you well. Our High School Youth Ministry schedule is below:

  • Sundays from 6:00pm – 8:30pm for Movies & Morality [Last one before fall kickoff is August 30th] (in person only)
  • Fall High School Youth Minitry Kickoff - Sunday, September 13th 6:00-7:30pm
  • Wednesdays from 7:00pm – 8:00pm for Bible Study (via Zoom). This time may move later once the school year begins.

In light of COVID-19 the Diocese has provided guidelines and a waiver that each participant will need to complete in order to participate in person. For the foreseeable future, when we gather in person, we will follow CDC, DHEC, diocesan, and parish guidelines for gatherings. These guidelines listed below include, but are not limited to:

  • Everyone is expected to wear a mask. If a student or adult arrives without a mask one will be provided and they are expected to wear it. Masks may be removed when outside if social distancing is able to take place.
  • Hand sanitizer stations will be readily available.
  • Six-foot social distancing will be enforced throughout the gathering (including all parish grounds before/after the program). The only exception will be for students living in the same residence or who arrive in the same vehicle.
  • Food will not be shared. Individually packaged snacks/drinks will be available during our fall Sunday Youth Nights
  • Non-contact Temperature checks will be conducted before students/adults enter the building. Anyone who registers a temperature of 100.4 or above will not be allowed to participate.
  • Any updates from diocesan or healthcare officials that effectively change the current guidelines will be communicated to our families and students. Please make sure you provide us with an updated email address.

In addition to the procedural guidelines above there is a waiver that parents must complete in order for their student(s) to participate in person (one waiver is good for the entire summer). Anyone who does not have a signed waiver will not be allowed to participate in person until the waiver is completed and submitted.

While these procedures and waiver are not how we envisioned our ministry year to begin, the safety of our community is paramount while balancing the need for socialization. If you have any questions/concerns, please do not hesitate to call or email me.

All students in grades 9-12 are invited and encouraged to attend. Friends (high school aged) are always welcome at any of our Youth Ministry gatherings regardless of their faith background. Parents are also welcome to join us to see all that we do during our meetings.

Our High School Ministry is more than our Sunday night meetings. We offer and participate in a variety of programming at local, diocesan, and national levels. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. We hope to see you soon!

We gather to foster Missionary Discipleship by connecting people to Jesus Christ and one another through our Catholic Faith Community.

Programs & Events

High School Youth Nights

We've been apart for far too long. Sunday, September 13th we kickoff our fall semester with Sunday Youth Nights. Things will be different, we all look different in masks, there will be less (no) pizza, but our faith, our community, and our commitment to discipleship - while sharing laughs - remains! All high school students are invited, welcome, and encouraged to attend! If you have questions or concerns - please don't hesitate to call or email! We're looking forward to gathering - safely, socially distant, but in person - again and we hope you'll be there with us!

Junior/Senior Discernment Group

High School 11th & 12th grade students are faced with a lot of big decisions, stress, and a touch of uncertainty. Join us as we wade through all of that and begin to ask the question, "what does God want of me?"

Our Junior/Senior Discernment group kicks off Sunday, Oct. 18th just after our High School Youth Night.

Keep in mind - discernment doesn't automatically mean a vocation to the religious life (though we'll have those discussions as well).

Bible Study

Join us on Wednesdays at 7 pm as we read and reflect on the book of Job. These are great opportunities to dive into scripture, learn more about Job- a faithful upright follower of God who comes under some major stresses. Does he continue to worship the Lord or does he walk away? He's got some friends who give him advice too...but not always the best advice. See how Job journeys through his struggle. There's drama, love, loss, even yelling at God. This book has it all. For gerat discussion, join us on Wednesdays at 7 via Zoom

Homeless Awareness Night

Homeless Awareness Night - November 7, 2020

A Box is not a home. Join us for a retreat style event on the lawn between the church and the parish life center. We'll start at 8pm and end at 7am Nov. 8th.

During this event we'll discuss Catholic Social Teaching - especially as it pertains to the poor and vulnerable.

Alaska Mission Trip

We know there's a long way to go with COVID, but we also have great hope in our future! We've begun planning (because it takes this long) for our summer 2021 High School Mission Trip to Juneau, Alaska. Space is limited on this trip due to lodging/transportation factors. We will be staying in The Lodge at the National Shrine of St. Therese in Juneau. Click the PDF for more info:
